Prohormone Stacks and How to Take Them

Prohormone stacks are combinations of different prohormone supplements designed to work together. Generally, a prohormone stack will be 8 weeks long, which is 2 4 week cycles back-to back. To get the best results from your prohormone stack, there are a few things you should know regarding how to do it right.

The majority of prohormone stacks combine a cutting prohormone with a bulking prohormone (this is not always the case, but usually). The first thing yoo have to decide is do you want to cut first, then bulk, or bulk first, then cut? 90% of the time I recommend the bulk then cut method. By bulking up first, you give your prohormone cycle a boost from the beginning. Most people tend to gain a little water weight during a bulk cycle, and following that with a cutting cycle will help cut that water weight. If you bulk then cut, you will end your prohormone stack looking lean and vascular rather than bulky and maybe slightly bloated.

The exception to this rule is a strength athlete looking to end the cycle with more mass to compete in an event such as powerlifting, Strongman, etc. In this case, it may be beneficial to cut first, then use the bulking prohormone to maximize muscle and strength for the competition.

It’s also very important to do your Post-Cycle Therapy correctly on a prohormone stack. When you cycle for 8 weeks, your body is more likely to have some estrogen rebound when you come off cycle. For this reason, I recommend you stack a product like 6-Bromo with your PCT. This will counteract estrogen rebound and help prevent any post-cycle side effects.

Lastly, because a prohormone stack is longer, you may want to include some additional cycle support with your stack, such as Organ Armoured. This is a safeguard to protect your liver and other internal organs from the extra stress of a longer cycle.

Regardless of the type of prohormone stack you do, follow the directions and take the prohormones as recommended. Most formulas are 2 per day, spaced 12 hours apart. Others may be 3 capsules per day. Either way, don’t try to extend your cycle longer, and don’t “double up” and take 2 prohormones at once. You won’t get double the results but you will probably get double the side effects. Follow all the same rules that apply to a regular prohormone cycle and do it right for best results.

Prohormones and Testosterone – Is It Safe?

These days, many men are using testosterone as a form of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). If you are using testosterone such as testosterone Cypionate or Androgel and you are interested in using prohormones, you may be curious as to their interaction and overall safety.

Testosterone Therapy Testosterone Cypionate is a popular choice for testosterone replacement therapy.

Basically, supplementing an exogenous (outside) form of testosterone just replaces what your body should be producing internally. Physiologically, there is very little difference in someone supplementing testosterone, and someone who produces healthy levels of testosterone naturally. For this reason, it should be safe to take prohormones even if you are using testosterone therapy as well.

In fact, one of the side effects that is possible with prohormones is that your body shuts down its own production of testosterone. This is one of the reasons why proper PCT using a test booster is so important. If you are supplementing with exogenous testosterone, this shutdown doesn’t occur, which actually reduces the potential side effects which go along with gonadal shutdown (loss of libido, etc.)

That being said, it is still necessary to use PCT even if you are using prohormones with testosterone. Estrogen rebound is still a concern, and Post-Cycle Therapy addresses this by keeping estrogen levels in check.I specifically recommend 6-Bromo to combat estrogen rebound. One difference is that a test booster isn’t necessary for PCT if you will be staying on the testosterone supplement.

In short, taking testosterone and prohormones should be safe and very effective. You will probably get even better results from your prohormone cycle because your testosterone levels will stay consistent throughout the cycle. Take PCT as normal after your prohormone cycle and you should get excellent results with minimal to no side effects.

Winter is around the corner – time to Bulk up!

Thanksgiving is around the corner and colder temperatures are here. That means lots of food, family get-togethers, parties, and long-sleeved clothes. The colder months are the perfect time to bulk up and add some sheer mass to your frame because you won’t be taking your shirt off for a while. Also, nobody is going to notice if you are a little bloated. After all, it’s the holidays!

In the spirit of adding quality mass, here are the Top 5 supplements for bulking up:

1. Blended protein - A blended protein such as X-Blend 7 by Xcel has a lot of advantages if you’re trying to add mass. The multiple release rates help the amino acids stay in your system longer and prevent catabolism. A blended protein also gives you different amino acid profiles which is optimal to feed your hungry muscle tissue. As good as whey protein is, a quality blended protein takes it to the next level.

2. Mammoth DNA - I had to throw this one out there since we’re talking about mass. Mammoth DNA really is the most mid-blowing mass prohormone on the market today. With multiple bulking compounds, built-in liver support, and a time-release formula, Mammoth is no joke. If you are considering using a prohormone to help you add slabs of muscle to your frame, Mammoth is the top dog.

3. BCAA’s - Branched Chain Amino Acids are used by your body for energy during intense exercise. If you don’t get them from your diet, your body will suck them from your muscle tissue. That’s the opposite of what you want if you are trying to add muscle, so consider adding BCAA’s to your regimen. You can use an advanced formula such as Ultimate BCAA by Xcel, or you can just pop a few capsules of a pure BCAA supplement such as Prograde BCAA’s. Either way, you will be doing your body a favor and you’ll get a boost in muscle mass and strength.

4. Creatine - Creatine has gotten a bad reputation over the years, and it’s mostly due to people with bad information. The good news is that modern forms of creatine are much better than the old monohydrate powders (which worked well). Advanced formulations such as Kreapump give you highly absorbable forms of creatine with boosters such as Agmatine and Beta Alanine. If you haven’t used creatine before, you will probably be amazed by the difference it can make in your strength, muscular endurance, and overall muscle mass.

5. Carbohydrates - Carbohydrates may be the most anabolic substance on the planet. If you are trying to bulk up, it’s time to ramp up the carb intake. Of course, you don’t want to overdo it and get fat, but adding some extra carbohydrates to your daily regimen will prevent muscle loss and drive glycogen and water into the muscles. This is a truly anabolic effect, and you don’t even need a supplement to get it. If you are a hard gainer, try adding a serving or two of pasta to your diet. You will probably feel and see a difference in just a day or two.

Should you take prohormones if you’re FAT?

Anybody considering taking prohormones wants something. Many people want more strength and muscle mass, and others want a lean, ripped physique. Prohormones can help you take your body to the next level no matter what your goals are, but what are the limits? Specifically, should someone who is very overweight take prohormones to try and cut fat?

In my experience, it’s not a good idea to use prohormones if you are very overweight. If your body fat percentage is over about 25%, you will be much better off dividing your fat loss regimen into 2 phases:

Phase One: Use moderate intensity cardio, circuit training, and a fat burner such as Ephedra-X to help cut your body fat percentage below 20%. This phase may take anywhere between 4-12 weeks, depending on your body composition and your diet. In this phase, its a good idea to cut carbs down (not out) and eat a high protein, high fiber diet. Basically, meat, vegetables and protein shakes.

Phase Two: Once your body fat levels have fallen under 20%, you will get much better results from a prohormone cycle (more on this below). Adjust your routine to use high intensity interval training (HIIT), and consider carb cycling. This will accelerate your fat loss and put your metabolism into overdrive without sacrificing muscle mass. Now is also the time to use a good cutting prohormone. Manifested and Reaper are two of the best ones available. Continue your fat loss program through your PCT, for a total of 8 weeks. At the end of phase two, you should be much leaner and harder, and you will probably have more muscle mass than you did when you started. It’s a win-win.

prohormones and fat

So why the two phases? The problem is what being fat really does to you. Fat cells store estrogen and release it into your system constantly. This means that you are more likely to have negative estrogen related side effects from a prohormone cycle if your body fat percentage is high. In addition, being fat reduces your insulin sensitivity, meaning you are more likely to get fat from regular eating. It’s a positive feedback loop that makes losing fat very difficult once you’ve reached a certain point.

So if you’re over 20% body fat, follow the 2 phase plan. You will get better results and have fewer side effects from your prohormone cycle. Questions? Contact me Here.

How to Take Prohormones for the Best Results

One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that many people are confused on how to take prohormones to get the best results. I get a lot of questions like “should I take prohormones every day or just on rest days?” and ” “What time should I take my prohormones?”

Of course, the simplest answer is “follow the directions on the bottle” – but I think people deserve a little more than that. Taking prohormones correctly is very important to give you the best results and also minimize the risk for side effects. Follow the basic guidelines below and you will maximize your experience with prohormones.

Taking prohormones right

1. Take your prohormones every day (don’t skip days). This is the first rule of prohormones and the most important one not to break. Your results on a prohormone cycle depends largely on keeping blood hormone levels consistent, and preventing a hormone roller coaster will keep estrogen (and its related side effects) in check. Another thing to understand is that hormones work relatively slowly in the body, so just taking them on workout days, for example, is not helpful at all. It’s OK to end a cycle early if you need to, just don’t stop and start again without PCT. This will most likely wreak havoc on your hormonal system and be very detrimental.

2. Space your prohormones evenly. As stated above, the goal is to maintain consistent hormone levels in your blood stream, so try to space your prohormone servings evenly. If you take 2 pills a day, take them 12 hours apart. If you are using a 3 per day formula, take them 8 hours apart. If you’re off by an hour or so it shouldn’t affect much, but being very inconsistent with your timing could cause large fluctuations. It’s worth noting here that Xcel prohormones all contain Carbopol, which gives them a time-release effect. This is even better because it releases small amounts of the compounds into your system, keeping levels very consistent.

3. Make up for missed doses. OK, so you screwed up and forgot your 9am dose, now its 6pm. What do you do? What I recommend is to take a serving as soon as possible, then shorten the time between doses for the next day. For example, if you normally take one at 9 am and one at 9pm, but you forgot your morning supplements, take one at 6pm and then another one at midnight. Then you can get back on your normal schedule with minimal hormone fluctuation.

4. Always use good Post-Cycle Therapy. This is kind of after the fact, but an integral part of any prohormone cycle. Start your PCT the day after your prohormone cycle ends. Some compounds such as 6-Bromo can even be started a week or 2 before the end of your cycle in order to reduce the chance of estrogen rebound. The rules for PCT are about the same as prohormones – take them consistently for the full 4 weeks and don’t skip days.

Follow the 4 rules above and you will maximize your chances for success with your prohormone cycle. The goal is to get the best gains possible and reduce any side effects, and taking your prohormones correctly is the biggest step in accomplishing that.
